Bright green buckram binding with black spine titling. Green, illustrated endpapers. 102 pages. Black and white frontispiece illustration of Th鏎ir and Aun. ~ Book is in fine, clean condition, no wear, interior pages unmarked. Dust jacket is very good: bright and crisp, with small bits of rubbing wear at head/heel of spine and flap folds and a few small closed edge tears. Front panel has a gold sticker commemorating the Nordic Heritage Museum 15th anniversary, 1980-1995. Now in a clear archival cover. ~~ The saga of Aun the Bow-bender is one of the Old Norse Legendary Sagas [Fornalds鐷ur], which take place before Iceland was colonized; it is one of four sagas that belong to the subset of the Lengendary Sagas called the Hrafnistumannas鐷ur, which take place in northern Norway and all concern the personage Ketil Trout and his relatives. Written down about 1320 A.D., this saga tells of the heroic life of Aun, an independent farmer blessed with uncommon physical strength, who enters into a feud with King Ingjald. Many Icelanders trace their ancestry back to the men ofAun's extended family. For many years, the Legendary Sagas were overlookd as unimportant by Old Norse scholars, but in the last few decades they have become the subject of study. ~~This book represents the first translation of this saga into English. WorldCat shows only six copies owned by institutions worldwide.
