1 Dutton, GeoffreyAustralian Collection: Australia's Greatest Books
North Ryde, NSW, Australia Angus & Robertson 1986 0207149615 / 9780207149610 First Edition Hard Cover Near Fine Fine 9" x 12 1/2"
First printing. Burnt orange cloth with gold titling on spine and on cover with decorative blocking. Mustard endpapers. 406 pages. Profuse color and black & white illustrations. Index of Authors and Titles. ~ Book is clean, straight, with light rubbing along bottom edges and head of spine. Front endpapers beginning to tear at lower part of the hinge, but this is a superficial flaw and the binding is intact and strong. (Please see bookseller photo.) Interior pages are clean and unmarked. Dust jacket is crisp and bright with no wear. Now in a clear archival cover. ~~ An exemplary collection of classic fiction and nonfiction pieces from a wide range of Australian writers, representing a distillation of those which helped shape/reflect the image of Australia. Included are Watkin Tench, May Gibbs, C.E.W. Bean, Patrick White, Joan Lindsay, and A.B. Facey, to name a few. The compilation includes stories, biographies, humor, histories and children's works, and the pieces are accompanied by critical essays and biographies of the writers as well as their picture. The book also features a selection of paintings, photographs and drawings by eminent Australian artists, such as Frederick McCubbin, Russell Drysdale, and Norman Lindsay. This is a lovely book and a fine introduction to Australia's body of art and writing. Please note that this is an oversized and heavy book and may require an extra shipping charge, particularly for international orders.

Zurich JRP/Ringier 2010 303764172X / 9783037641729 Softcover As New 16mo - over 5" - 6" tall
Small softcover with illustrated covers. 159 pages. Color illustrations. Book is as new, with original shrink wrap, opened to examine book. ~ FACE (Foundation of Arts for a Contemporary Europe) is a European not-for-profit group for the arts formed in 2008 and established by five private non-profit art foundations in five different countries, with the aim of promoting contemporary art through a wider international platform, and with a special focus on supporting the production and exhibition of new works by both emerging and more established artists. The five partner foundations are DESTE Foundation (Athens, Greece); Ellipse Foundation, (Cascais, Portugal); Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin, Italy); La Maison rouge - Fondation Antoine de Galbert (Paris, France); and Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall (Sweden). ~ This publication represents the group's first initiative: a two-year traveling art exhibition that draws its name from the short story by Franz Kafka and presents 40 artworks from their collections. Contained in the book are two-page "biographies" of each of the five foundations; information about the exhibition and its different venues; and pictures of the exhibition artworks with explanatory descriptions. Also included within are five short stories by current, prize-winning writers and authors that echo the exhibition's theme, specially commissioned for this publication and translated into English. The writers are by Aristide Antonas (Greece), Jonas Hassen Khemiri (Sweden), Rui Cardoso Martins (Portugal), Emmanuelle Pagano (France), and Tiziano Scarpa (Italy). Short bios are provided for each. This small book holds an astonishing serving of contemporary art and original writing. A collector's piece.
