Philadelphia Porter & Coates 1882 Standard/Globe Edition Hardcover Very Good
"From the Last Revised Edition, containing the author's final corrections, notes, etc." No date given on copyright page; 1882 date stated here is approximate as two volumes have a previous owner inscription with that date. Dark green cloth with gilt spine titling and decoration; brown endpapers; publisher's topstain on text block. Each volume has a B&W frontispiece with tissue guard. Bindings are intact on all four volumes; all show some rubbing/wear at head/heel of spine and corners; text blocks darkened; previous owner names on pastedowns and/or free endpapers. Interior paging is clean and unmarked. ~~ The Waverley Novels, so named for the protagonist Edward Waverley, are historical novels that share similar themes of tolerance and social progress and were written during the same time period. The first novel, Waverley, is set during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, and was a tremendous success. This is a nice matching set of four volumes in the Waverley series.
