First printing of this edition. (Originally published by Black Inc, Australia, 2005). Blue spine and cream boards. 111 pages. Black & white illustrations. ~ Book is clean, fine, appears unread. Dust jacket is fine, now in a clear archival cover. ~~ Tells the story of the ship "Batavia," which wrecked on an archipelago near the west coast of Australia in 1629. Most passengers survived, but came under the rule of a psychopathic mutineer and were subject to brutal measures and a methodical massacre, until they were eventually rescued by the ship's captain who had sailed off in search of water and assistance. The wreck was discovered in the 1960s. ~~ Included in this book is a narrative by the author, titled "Prosper," about his own experience one summer working on a tuna-fishing boat, one of the last boats still working under sail. His memories serve as a tribute to the world of the seaman.
