Now in a clear archival cover. ~~ Henry Treece was a British poet, educator and historian, and was well-known for his historical fiction, much of it written for youth. His writing was marked by a concern for the human element in historic events, such as compassion in conflict and the consequences of aggression. This trilogy demonstrates these themes. "I Cannot Go Hunting Tomorrow" is set in Roman Britain around the third century, in Shropshire. Two individuals try to bridge the gap between the new order of the invading Romans and the old anarchy of the native Celts. "The Black Longship" tells of an attempt by the Jomsvikings to pillage a town on the coast of Northumberland in the second century, but is defeated and destroyed. "The Man on the Hill," published for the first time in this book, concerns the attack on England by King Harald of Norway and William the Conqueror in 1066. "The changes wrought by these three waves of invasion upon the people and the culture of a small island country are the subject of these brilliant and exciting stories. Henry Treece wrote his stirring tales of war primarily to dramatize its futility. People were Treece's greatest concern, and his characters, though briefly met, are fully revealed-and fully, unforgettably human."-dust jacket. Price:
