Color photographs and black & white drawings and maps. ~ Book is clean and tight, still falls shut when opened, a few tiny spots of rubbing at head and tail of spine and one corner. Dust jacket is bright and crisp, with some minor wrinkling at top of spine and flap folds and a small 1/2" closed tear at tail of spine. Now in a clear archival cover. ~~ A fascinating chronicle about the sea journey that the author and his family took which retraced the route taken by Vikings in the tenth century, beginning in Norway and going to Iceland, then to Greenland and finally to North America. As a parallel to the family's journey he shares the Norse history as learned through the sagas, recreating their lives and circumstances and bringing characters such as Thorvald, Eirik the Red, and Leif the Lucky to life. A wonderfully entertaining read.
