Dust jacket is fine, now protected in a clear archival cover. ~~ This book tells the story of a baby boy who underwent transgender surgery after a botched circumcision that destroyed his penis. He was raised as a girl alongside his identical twin brother, receiving various treatments to make him feminine. When he was fourteen years old, he finally rebelled and sought measures to return to being a male and has been living as one ever since. The author explores the back story of the medical machinations and competition involved in this case of gender reassignment, which was for years hailed as an unqualified success, and which was not exposed as a failure until years after it was recognized. However, this book is "first and foremost a human drama of one man's--and one family's amazing survival in the face of terrible odds.
