1 Cartwright, ThomasSigurd the Dragon-Slayer: A Twice-Told Tale
New York E.P. Dutton & Co. 1907 Hard Cover Very Good+ No Jacket, as Issued
A title in Every Child's Library. Small volume in blue cloth with black and gilt titling and decoration and color paper illustration affixed to front cover; blue ribbon place-marker. 119 pages + glossary [1 pg]. Color frontispiece with tissue guard; 7 color plate illustrations; and numerous black and white illustrations throughout. ~ Book is clean with only minor rubbing at corners and one small abrasion on front cover. Paper is split between frontispiece and title page, but pages not loose and binding and webbing still intact and strong. ~~ This volume is one of six titles in the "Every Child's Library" series published in 1907-08 by William Heineman in London and E.P. Dutton in New York. The story is presented in two versions: the Viking hero as represented in Norse mythology and the Volsung Saga; and the more "modern" version as told by the Germans in poetic form as 'The Lay of the Nibelungs, Or, The Noble Life and Sad Ending of King Siegfried.' Though written for youth, this little book is equally entertaining for adults. Scarce.
