About Grass River Books

Welcome to Grass River Books, located on the beautiful west coast of Florida in Sarasota.

Our bookstore name is a tribute to the magnificent Florida Everglades.  A now-classic book by Marjory Stoneman Douglas, published in 1947, was poetically entitled "The Everglades: River of Grass." Douglas was the first to point out the beauty and importance of this unique ecosystem and natural habitat, and of the need to protect it and save it from destruction.

Grass River Books offers fiction, nonfiction, and children's/young adult books. We carry First Editions and collectible books, including some rare, classic, and signed books.  But you needn't be a collector to enjoy our offerings.

Our largest nonfiction collections are in the areas of Natural Sciences/Nature/Wildlife/Environment; Floridiana; Americana; History; Biography; Social Sciences/Women's Studies; and Writing/Authorship/Language Usage.  However, we strive to find interesting books in all subject areas.

Our books have been hand-picked with an eye to such features as collectibility, subject matter, condition, scarcity, usefulness, and uniqueness.  We enjoy eclecticism and are constantly on the lookout for the unusual.
